Myanmar’s military regime has launched a large-scale offensive against Nyaungkyo camp in Padaung Township, Bago Region, which is held by the Arakan Army (AA), but an AA-led coalition force intercepted the advancing troops, triggering heavy fighting.

The regime’s forces advanced on Nyaungkyo via Hsinlan Village but were blocked by a joint force led by the AA, forcing the junta troops to retreat with heavy losses, according to sources familiar with the clashes.

“Junta troops based in Hsinlan were attacked by anti-regime forces as they launched an offensive against Nyaungkyo camp. The military attempted to retake the camp, but during the fighting, the troops retreated back to Hsinlan Village with heavy losses, carrying away some bodies and weapons,” a source said.

Fighting continues in and around Nyaungkyo Village, and as junta troops sustain casualties, the military regime is reportedly providing air support.

In Padaung Township, clashes are also ongoing at KaPaSa 6 in Nyaungchayhtauk Village and KaPaSa 16 in Mathone Village under the Otshitpin military station, near the Point 666 outpost.

The junta units deployed on the Padaung front include Light Infantry Battalions Nos. 361, 362, 364, 365, 366, 367, 368, 369 and 370, as well as Infantry Battalion No. 373, under Military Operations Command 10.

Military observers say the regime is reinforcing its forces to prevent the loss of bases in Padaung Township, which hosts four military-owned weapons factories, and to curb the expansion of revolutionary offensives.

“Padaung Township is extremely important for the military regime, as four military-owned weapons factories are located there. At the same time, Arakan State is strategically important for exerting military pressure on Taungup. That is why the regime is strengthening its forces and increasing military pressure,” a military observer said.

Otshitpin military station in western Bago Region, where tensions are running high, is home to KaPaSa 5, KaPaSa 6, KaPaSa 9 and KaPaSa 16.

An AA-led coalition has been fighting in Padaung Township since January 2025, capturing at least five junta camps and advancing close to the military’s weapons factories.
