Myanmar’s military regime is reportedly reinforcing the Nat Yay Kan junta base in Ngaphe Township, Magway Region, bordering Arakan State, with troops from Padan and by building new bunkers.
The regime is constructing new bunkers after a coalition force led by the Arakan Army attacked the Nat Yay Kan base with heavy weapons, military sources said.
A military source said: “The battle for the Nat Yay Kan junta base is intense. The Arakan Army and allied forces are continuously attacking with heavy weapons and drones. The military regime is building new bunkers because the base has been damaged by heavy weapons. The regime is gathering resources and fighting to the death.”
A joint force led by the Arakan Army has captured at least eight military outposts that are part of the Nat Yay Kan junta base and is close to seizing the entire tactical base, according to military sources.
The regime is also providing artillery support from the Padan-based Artillery Battalion 905 and using civilian vehicles to reinforce the Nat Yay Kan junta base, the source said.
“The military regime is reinforcing the Nat Yay Kan tactical junta base with civilian vehicles from Artillery Battalion 905 to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Arakan Army. Allied forces are cutting off supply routes as much as they can, so many junta reinforcements are killed on the road. There are also many deserters, and the troops are now relying only on artillery support,” he said.
Fighting over Nat Yay Kan has continued since January 2025, involving junta battalions under Light Infantry Division 99, Military Operations Command (MOC) No. 17 and MOC No. 14, but these forces have been ineffective and have suffered heavy attrition.
Ko Min Han Htet, information officer of the Student Armed Force, told DMG that fighting near the Nat Yay Kan junta base remains intense and that they expect to capture it soon.
“Some junta bases and outposts remain to be seized, so it is difficult to give details. We are participating in this operation with other revolutionary forces, including the Arakan Army. Fighting is ongoing. We also have many prisoners of war who fled during the battle. I believe we will be able to capture the Nat Yay Kan junta base very soon,” he said.
The Nat Yay Kan hilltop base is located on the Ann–Minbu Road at the border of Arakan State and Magway Region and serves as a national-level air defence base.
The Nat Yay Kan junta base in the Arakan Hills is strategically important to both revolutionary forces and the military regime, as it can threaten and disrupt military-owned weapons factories in Magway Region.
The Arakan Army and allied forces are simultaneously conducting military operations in Magway, Bago and Ayeyarwady regions, in addition to the Arakan front.
