An internally displaced person (IDP) was killed and another was injured in a junta airstrike on Nyaungchayhtauk Village, part of Arakan State's Thandwe Township, on Tuesday.
Nyaungchayhtauk Village is located near the Thandwe-Taungup road and hosts hundreds of IDPs from Hsinkhaung and Linthi villages.
"An IDP was killed and another one was wounded in the regime airstrike. We are still investigating the names and details of the deceased and injured," said an activist in Thandwe.
Civilian deaths have been on the rise as the regime has increasingly carried out airstrikes on residential areas and displacement camps in Thandwe Township, which was seized by the Arakkha Army (AA) earlier this year.
"I think that the regime's bombardment of civilians and IDPs' shelters is a deliberate act to harm the people," said a local woman.
On September 26, at least 14 civilians including children were killed and 25 others were injured in a junta airstrike on Thandwe. Three civilians including a child were killed and three others were injured in a junta aerial attack on Pauktu Village, Thandwe Township, on September 23.
At least 55 civilian casualties have been reported in Thandwe Township due to junta airstrikes since September 5, according to a DMG tally.
