Shelling kills infant, injures father in Buthidaung Twsp village
An artillery shell explosion at Pyaing Taung Muslim village in southern Buthidaung Township, Arakan State, killed an 11-month-old baby and seriously injured the father on June 25.

An artillery shell explosion at Pyaing Taung Muslim village in southern Buthidaung Township, Arakan State, killed an 11-month-old baby and seriously injured the father on June 25.
“While he was walking near his house carrying his baby, an artillery shell landed near him,” said U Shwe Hla Aung, the administrator of Buthidaung Township. “There was no report of a clash. We do not know who opened fire.”
The 27-year-old father, identified as U Mahmed Einus, was severely wounded and is receiving medical treatment at Buthidaung Township Hospital, U Shwe Hla Aung said.
Pyithu Hluttaw lawmaker U Aung Thaung Shwe from Buthidaung Township said the incident was not isolated, listing four other villages in the township where artillery shells had landed, causing civilian casualties.
On February 13, an artillery shell hit a school in Khami Chaung village, Buthidaung Township, injuring 21 students.
