Six dead, two wounded in bomb blast at Thingyan pavilion in Shan State’s Lashio
A bomb blast at a Thingyan water festival pavilion near Yan Taing Aung Pagoda in Lashio, northern Shan State, has reportedly killed six people and injured two, according to sources on the ground.

A bomb blast at a Thingyan water festival pavilion near Yan Taing Aung Pagoda in Lashio, northern Shan State, has reportedly killed six people and injured two, according to sources on the ground.
The explosion occurred at the Thingyan pavilion’s car parking lot at around 11 a.m. on April 13, killing four people at the scene.
“A bomb blew up in the precinct of Yan Taing Aung Pagoda this morning. Somebody left a bomb in a vehicle at the pavilion’s parking lot. Four people were pronounced dead at the scene and two others died on the way to the hospital,” said an official from a local social organisation in Lashio.
Two people who sustained serious injuries in the explosion are being treated in the intensive care unit of a public hospital in Lashio. Six vehicles were also badly damaged by the explosion.
Following the bomb blast, junta soldiers and police conducted tight security checks on passersby and residents near the Thingyan pavilion.
“Junta security personnel are patrolling downtown Lashio in vehicles. Junta soldiers and police conducted tight security checks on passersby and residents near Yan Taing Aung Pagoda,” said a resident of Lashio.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the deadly attack, according to local residents in Lashio.
