Two people including a child were killed and three others were injured in a junta air attack on Tanhlwe Ywama Town, part of Arakan State's Taungup Township, on Tuesday night, according to local residents.
The deceased have been identified as a 6-year-old boy and Ko Aung Thura, 23. A child, one woman and one man were injured.
The civilian casualties were reported after three bombs dropped by a junta jet fighter exploded near Ywathit bazaar, Shwepyitha jetty and a police station on the night of September 24.
"The regime launched an airstrike at around 8 p.m. on September 24," said a local resident.
The injured are receiving medical treatment at Taungup Hospital and the woman victim, who reportedly lost one of her arms in the attack, is said to be in critical condition.
"The regime now uses cluster bombs. The regime is attacking innocent people without distinguishing between civilian and military targets, resulting in many civilian casualties," said a military analyst.
Tensions between the military and Arakkha Army (AA) are running high in Taungup, with civilian casualties on the rise due to junta airstrikes and artillery shellings.
Junta airstrikes have so far killed three civilians and injured at least six others in Taungup Township this month.
