Civilian casualties heighten fears across Arakan State townships
At least 90 civilians were killed and 86 were injured in junta artillery attacks and airstrikes in Arakan State in July and August, according to a DMG tally.

One civilian was killed and five others were injured in junta artillery attacks and airstrikes in Arakan State's Rathedaung, Gwa and Thandwe townships over a two-day period earlier this month, with residents there "living in fear."
One civilian in Gwa Township was killed and five others in Thandwe and Rathedaung Townships were wounded due to the regime's indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas.
"We live in fear. We are afraid of the junta airstrikes. Hearing and seeing that many people have been killed and injured by the junta airstrikes, we are filled with fear," said a local woman in Thandwe Township.
U Maung Htwe, an 85-year-old man from Doetan Village in Gwa Township, was killed and Ko Min Min Oo, Ko Myo Min Tun, U Saw Tun and Daw Nyunt Shwe from Hsingaung Village in Thandwe Township were injured in the junta air attacks and artillery assault on September 3.
Daw Aye Thein May, in her 50s from Phyuchaung Village on Mose Island, part of Rathedaung Township, was injured in a junta airstrike on September 2.
"The regime often conducts airstrikes in Rathedaung Township. I strongly oppose the junta airstrikes without any fighting in the area," said a local resident.
