The Arakkha Army (AA) has vowed to liberate all of western Myanmar’s Arakan State. It has captured 14 townships including 13 townships in Arakan State and Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State.

Domestic and international military observers have called the AA the most successful armed resistance group to face off against the junta since the 2021 coup.

In a statement on Friday, the AA said its successes are not solely due to its efforts but also because of the support of the entire Arakan population, allied organisations, and some friends who wish to remain anonymous.

The AA thanked the relevant individuals and organisations for supporting its battle against the regime. Many AA soldiers have sacrificed lives or limbs in clashes, the AA said.

One Arakan resident said:  “The AA soldiers are strong, spirited, and have combat capability. The Arakan people fully support the AA. The AA has achieved victories because of the resilient Arakan people.”

The AA stated that its victory was not only the success of Arakan people, but also of all resistance groups and the entire population fighting against the junta.

Military analysts note that the AA has built an alliance with resistance forces across Myanmar and fought alongside other anti-regime groups on multiple fronts including other ethnic areas and the mainland, and has used effective combat strategies.

“The AA has clear political and military goals and is decisive in implementing them. They have a roadmap called the Way of Rakhita. Their unity and discipline under one command are strengths. Every member of the AA is willing to sacrifice,” said a military observer.

Political analysts said the AA has achieved today’s success partly because it has been able to grasp the opportunities that arose along the way since it was formed by 26 youths in Kachin State’s Laiza in 2009.
