People participated in a so-called 1111 movement on Saturday (11.11.2023) to show their support for “Operation 1027” launched by the Brotherhood Alliance last month.
In Sagaing, members of strike committees and others took to the streets holding sacred eugenia or Aung Tha Byay leaves as a symbol of triumph over the military regime.
“We organised the movement to show our support for Operation 1027, and to welcome potential defectors from the Myanmar military,” said Ko Aung Khant Zaw, a member of the strike committee representing villagers along the Chindwin River.
Similar campaigns were held in Monywa, Myaung, Kani, Salingyi and Letpadaung townships in Sagaing Region and Yenanchaung in Magway Region. Netiziens also joined the movement showing their support for Operation 1027.
“The Brotherhood Alliance and local revolutionary organisations have seized towns, which is encouraging. We people should do our part to enable them to seize more towns,” said a Mandalay resident who joined the online 1111 movement.
The Brotherhood Alliance — a tripartite military alliance made up of the Arakan Army (AA), Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and Myanmar National Democratic Alliance (MNDAA) — has seized six towns and more than 150 junta positions since they launched their offensive on October 27. The ethnic alliance has vowed to collaborate with other revolutionary organisations to fight the regime across the country.
