The Arakan Army and allied resistance forces have captured a Myanmar military camp stationed in Nat Ma Hote Kalay Village, Indaw Township, Sagaing Region, according to military sources.
The camp was seized following more than two hours of fighting after the Arakan Army and allied troops launched an offensive on the evening of May 13, a military source said.
“Two junta columns had combined and stationed themselves there. Their strength exceeded 100 soldiers. Resistance forces began the attack around 4:30 p.m. and fully captured the camp by around 6:30 or 7 p.m. Since area clearance operations have not yet been completed, the exact number of casualties is still unknown,” the source said.
Although the Arakan Army and allied forces succeeded in capturing the camp, intense clashes are continuing in nearby areas.
Military sources on the ground said the situation remains critical as another junta column is advancing from Katha toward the clash site, indicating that fighting is likely to continue.
“Although we completely seized the camp, there was no time to conduct clearance operations. As soon as morning arrived, the regime launched another column and heavy fighting is now ongoing. We can say the battle is not over yet,” the military source added.
On May 10, the Arakan Army and allied resistance forces intercepted and attacked a junta column traveling from Htigyaing toward Katha.
As clashes intensify across Sagaing Region between regime forces and allied troops led by the Kachin Independence Army and the Arakan Army, the military has also increased its use of airstrikes.
The regime regained control of Indaw and Katha townships in March and April this year after launching major offensives to retake areas previously captured by resistance forces.
Thousands of residents from six villages in Indaw Township have fled to safer areas due to the ongoing fighting.
