The Indian Embassy in Yangon and its Consulate General in Sittwe have donated relief materials including rice, cooking oil, chana dal (pulses) and stationery for internally displaced people (IDPs) at the Alodawpyei Monastery in the Arakan State capital.
The relief materials, worth more than K8.9 million (US$6,640), were handed over by Dr. Gautam Pandey, the Indian consul general, to the Alodawpyei Monastery on September 18.
The donation will help feed more than 500 IDPs housed at the monastery due to conflict in the state. The stationery, consisting of notebooks, pens, pencils, and other writing materials, is intended to allow IDP children to continue their education at the monastery.
This marks the second time that the government of India has donated relief materials for IDPs in Arakan State. In January of this year, Indian Ambassador Saurabh Kumar handed over 20,000 kits consisting of rice, cooking oil, dal, noodles, tarpaulin, and other humanitarian aid worth more than US$1 million to the Arakan State government to be distributed to IDPs housed in relief camps across the state.
