ANP to monitor participation of party member in State Administration Council

The participation of the Arakan National Party (ANP) in the State Administration Council will reportedly be decided on the basis of whether it is in the best interests of the Arakanese people.

The decision was made at a three-day meeting of the ANP Central Committee held in Mrauk-U Township from February 12-14.

Daw Aye Nu Sein, spokeswoman for the party, has been appointed a member of the State Administration Council formed by Myanmar’s military regime.

“We want participation to be in the best interests of the Arakanese people. We will wait and see,” said U Pe Than, a member of the ANP’s policy steering committee.

The ANP held its annual Central Committee meeting this month to discuss the party’s special activities and its role in the State Administration Council.

Some ANP members have resigned in connection with the party’s involvement in the State Administration Council.

“This is not the time to discuss the resignation of party members,” U Pe Than said. “This is a matter that you can decide for yourself, so if you ask for permission to quit, you must be allowed to resign.”

Daw Aye Nu Sein was appointed a member of the State Administration Council, which was formed after the military’s February 1 coup. Dr. Aung Kyaw Min, a former Arakan State cabinet minister, was appointed chairman of the State Administration Council in Arakan State.
