A workshop entitled “What the youth should do” was held in Sittwe on October 27, aiming to encourage young people in Arakan State to participate in business, education and political affairs.
Daw Soe Soe Htay, chair for women and children’s affairs at the National League for Democracy, said that the party leaders should attract young people by creating the interesting opportunities and for young adults to take part in political parties.
“We need to create opportunities for the young people to participate in political parties. The political process should be a learning one, and politics shouldn’t be daunting for them. I think the young people are moving away from politics,” she said.
Daw Soe Soe Htay said that although it shows that the young people are now more interested in politics, there are still few roles for them in political parties.
Ko Maung Khin Hla, a young member of Arakan National Party (ANP), said that young people should learn about politics to improve their business, education and social situation.
“The youth should learn about politics because politics is connected with everything, including business and education. Only if the political system is good, the country’s business, education and social affairs will be better. That’s why every youth should learn about politics,” he said.
The workshop was organized by Arakan Youth Generation Network and aimed to build a good relationship between young people.
Around 150 youths, including representatives of political parties and CSOs, attended the workshop.
