The Arakkha Army (AA) has laid siege to a Myanmar military base at Alel Than Kyaw in Arakan State’s Maungdaw Township, according to sources.
The siege came after the AA defeated Border Guard Police Battalion No. 4, based in Mawyawaddy.
“The AA has not yet attacked the Alel Than Kyaw base despite the siege. Yesterday, a junta jet bombed the vicinity,” a source told DMG.
On June 2, the AA launched simultaneous attacks on junta bases in six Maungdaw Township locations including Kyauk Panu, Myin Hlut and Inn Din villages, and seized control of all of them days later.
The AA seized the regime’s Mawyawaddy base on Sunday after junta troops fled the outpost.
A video clip circulating on social media purports to show border guard police and family members who had fled the Mawyawaddy base and Border Guard Police Battalion No. 9 stranded on the Alel Than Kyaw shore after their boats capsized.
Apart from Alel Than Kyaw, the AA needs only to conquer three junta bases to seize total control of Maungdaw Township, according to a military analyst. “Maungdaw Town will soon fall into the hands of the AA,” he predicted.
The AA has warned junta soldiers to surrender or face more attacks and their potential demise.
