Myanmar’s military regime dropped bombs on five villages in Arakan State’s Pauktaw Township on Saturday morning, wounding at least two villagers.
The villages targeted were Thae Khone, Sin Tet Maw, Taung Oo Maw, Kyein Kwe Maw and Taung Puu. Two men, 29 and 56, sustained minor injuries in Kyein Kwe Maw Village, according to a villager.
“A junta Y-12 jet bombed us around 11 a.m. They dropped seven bombs. One hit Kyein Kwe Maw. Two people were injured,” he said.
There were no casualties in other villages as the bombs apparently missed their targets.
One female resident of Thae Khone Village said: “Four bombs hit the village cemetery. Villagers are frightened though there were no casualties.”’
The Arakkha Army (AA) seized Pauktaw Township on January 19.
Over recent months, the regime has often targeted civilian populations in AA-controlled territory with indiscriminate air attacks.
One politician said: “They are deliberately attacking civilians. Civilians are in a panic when they hear planes. The international community should take action against the military regime for its terror campaign against civilians.”
In another fatal bombing raid on Saturday, two villagers were killed and at least 11 others were wounded in Yoe Tayoke Village, Ponnagyun Township.
A total of 268 civilians died and 640 others were injured at the hands of the regime over the past six months from November 13 to May 13, according to the Humanitarian and Development Coordination Office of the United League of Arakan/AA (ULA/AA).
