An officer from the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) was killed and three others were injured when they were ambushed by members of the Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army-North (SSPP/SSA-N) in Hsipaw Township, northern Shan State, on Friday while transporting captured prisoners of war.
Nay Oak, a captain from the TNLA, and three members transporting captured junta soldiers were attacked by SSPP/SSA fighters near Kyangin Village in Hsipaw Township on July 5, the ethnic armed group said in a statement.
The TNLA officer was pronounced dead on the spot and the three other TNLA members received gunshot wounds to their arms and thighs.
The SSPP/SSA members did not fire when TNLA troops passed through Hsipaw and Kyaukme in the past, but due to this shooting, fighting erupted after TNLA members arrived and tried to resolve the conflict, the Ta’ang ethnic armed group announced.
A clash broke out between SSPP/SSA and TNLA forces in Lotepar and Naung Pein Gyi villages in Kyaukme Township on Friday as the former opened fire on the latter.
The TNLA announced that the firing ended after the leaders of the two sides discussed, negotiated and agreed that lower-ranking soldiers had a misunderstanding.
TNLA members attacked three military outposts belonging to the SSPP/SSA in Kyaukme and Hsipaw townships, the Shan ethnic armed group said in a statement.
Casualties were reported after the TNLA launched attacks on three SSPP/SSA outposts in Kyaukme and Hsipaw townships on July 5, the statement added.
Three clashes broke out between the SSPP/SSA and TNLA in three separate locations in a day, with one SSPP/SSA fighter killed, the statement said.
