Thousands of local people in Loilempi, Chin State, fled to safer locations in fear of junta airstrikes after local anti-regime forces took control of the remote town on November 24.
Local anti-regime forces led by the Chin National Army (CNA), the armed wing of the Chin National Front (CNF), and Chinland Defense Force (CDF) have occupied a junta base, the only military camp of Light Infantry Battalion No. 304 in Loilempi town.
A local resident was killed and several homes and religious buildings were damaged after junta jet fighters attacked downtown Loilempi and nearby areas.
About 5,000 local people in Loilempi town have fled to safer locations in fear of the junta airstrikes.
“A local resident was killed in junta air attacks yesterday. The junta may launch another airstrike. Locals have fled to safer locations as they dare not stay in downtown Loilempi,” said an aid worker.
Junta soldiers retreated from Loilempi town and reportedly fled to the Indian border. The revolutionary forces are currently carrying out clearance operations, said a CNA official.
“Junta soldiers have fled to the Indian border and we are carrying out a clearance operation. Residents will be allowed to enter Loilempi when it is safe for them,” the CNA official added.
Resistance Forces in Chin State seized the Indian border town of Reh Khaw Da in Falam Township on November 16. Loilempi is the second town occupied by the Chin resistance forces in Chin State.
