The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) has seized three junta camps in Momeik Township, northern Shan State, the ethnic armed group said in a statement on July 8.
The TNLA took control of the three camps in Momeik Township on the evening of July 7 and fighting between the TNLA and military is escalating in Nawnghkio and Hsipaw townships in northern Shan State and in Mogok Township, Mandalay Region, the statement said.
A coalition force consisting of the TNLA and Mandalay PDF launched an attack on the military’s 606th Missile Battalion base in Nawnghkio at around 4 a.m. on July 8.
A military Y-12 jet fighter carried out airstrikes on positions near the 606th Missile Battalion base eight times and a jet fighter dropped bombs on Nawnghkio, the TNLA statement added.
The TNLA clashed with the military’s Light Infantry Battalion Nos. 88 and 148 at two separation locations in Mogok Township, with a junta jet fighter providing aerial support during the battles.
A clash between the TNLA and the military erupted near the Hsipaw Bridge in Hsipaw Township at about 10 a.m. on July 8, the statement said.
The TNLA and allied forces have been carrying out attacks for control of towns in northern Shan State and Mandalay Region since the breakdown of a China-brokered truce on June 25.
The TNLA and allied forces have seized at least 40 junta camps during the latest hostilities, and fighting between the resistance forces and Myanmar’s military regime is escalating in Shan State’s Nawnghkio, Momeik, Hsipaw and Lashio townships.
Civilian casualties and the number of internally displaced people (IDPs) continue to rise in Kyaukme, Nawnghkio and Mogok townships due to the latest hostilities.
