Tatmadaw files complaint against a villager under Electronic Transactions law

The Tatmadaw has filed a complaint against a villager from Kyauk Phyu Township, Arakan State, accusing the villager of distributing information relating to secrets of the Tatmadaw, according to Kyauk Phyu police Station.

The Tatmadaw has filed a complaint against a villager from Kyauk Phyu Township, Arakan State, accusing the villager of distributing information relating to secrets of the Tatmadaw, according to Kyauk Phyu police Station.

Maung Tin Chan from Sit Taw village allegedly posted security information concerning the Navy on his Facebook page “ဂ်ပန္ေခတ္ကရခိုင္သားေခ်” (Japan Khit Ka Rakhine Thar Chay).

Captain Pyae Phyo Aung from Danyawaddy Regional Command has opened a complaint under section 33 (b) of the Electronic Transactions Law, head of Kyauk Phyu police station said. But the police officer did not elaborate on the complaint. 

The section 33 (b) of the Electronic Transactions law states that anyone who is found receiving or sending and distributing any information relating to the security of the State or prevalence of law and order or community peace and tranquility or national solidarity or national economy or national culture shall be punished five years imprisonment which may be extended to seven years and may also be liable to a fine.
