Fierce fighting continues as junta attacks AA positions in Padaung Twsp

Military regime forces are launching offensives against Nyaungkyoe camp and the Point 666 hilltop outpost, two strategic positions controlled by the Arakan Army (AA) along the Padaung-Taungup Road connecting Padaung Township in Bago Region with Taungup Township in Arakan State.

The military regime launched offensives toward Nyaungkyoe camp and the Point 666 hilltop outpost via Hsinlan Village in Padaung Township on September 10, with intense fighting continuing through September 26.

“Military regime forces reinforced their troops and began attacking Nyaungkyoe camp and the Point 666 hilltop outpost during the second week of September,” a military source told DMG.

“Roughly 300 junta troops divided into two columns are advancing. While Arakan Army and allied resistance forces maintain strong defensive positions, heavy junta casualties have forced regime troops into an alternating pattern of attacking and pausing. Rather than launching direct counterattacks, our forces are intercepting and disrupting junta offensive columns,” the military source added.

The Arakan Army and allied resistance forces fully captured Nyaungkyoe camp and the Point 666 hilltop outpost in April and November 2025, respectively.

The military regime reinforced Weapons Factory No. 6 in Nyaungchayhtaut Village in August before deploying troops into Hsinlan Village to launch the current offensive against Nyaungkyoe camp and the Point 666 hilltop outpost.

Codenamed “Operation 4926,” the multi front offensive attempts to breach areas controlled by the Arakan Army simultaneously across the Sittwe and Kyaukphyu battlefronts in Arakan State, as well as border entry points in Bago Region, Magway Region, and Ayeyarwady Region.

Military observers note that fighting across the Arakan front will likely intensify as the military regime launches aggressive multi-pronged attacks to regain control over lost townships across Arakan State.

“The launch of Operation 4926 clearly demonstrates that the military regime is desperate to retake lost towns and villages across Arakan State,” an Arakan conflict observer said. “The regime is attempting simultaneous multi-pronged offensives. However, Arakan Army strategic defences have prevented junta troops from advancing. Given the regime’s willingness to expend military conscripts and militia forces, battles across the Arakan front will only intensify.”

Since early 2025, the Arakan Army has advanced along the Taungup-Padaung Arakan Yoma mountain pass toward Bago Region, where several military weapons factories are located, with heavy fighting ongoing in the Arakan Yoma mountain range in Padaung Township.

Military regime forces are desperately pressing their offensive along the Padaung route in an effort to reenter Taungup Township in Arakan State.

Under Operation 4926, the military regime launched simultaneous attacks on September 4 across Ponnagyun Township, the Sittwe battlefront, and Sanae Town on the Kyaukphyu battlefront.

In addition, junta forces are attempting to penetrate Arakan State from bordering territories in Bago Region, Magway Region, Ayeyarwady Region, and Chin State.
