Junta forces reportedly arrested a female gold shop owner in Kyaikto Township, Mon State, on February 3 during an overnight guest list check.
Her neighbour said Daw Win Soe was arrested for participating in the nationwide anti-coup “silent strike” on February 1, held to mark the one-year anniversary of the Myanmar military’s seizure of power.
“Ward administrators, police and soldiers arrived at her home to check the overnight guest list,” the neighbour told DMG.
Family members said it is not known where she is being detained.
Three military vehicles, carrying security personnel and local administrators, conducted overnight guestlist checks in Kyaikto town on Thursday night.
“They check houses every night for overnight guest lists. I heard that those involved in the silent strike will be arrested,” a Kyaikto resident said.
As many as 200 dissidents have been arrested in Kyaikto Township since the military coup in February 2021, including a Kyaikto correspondent from The Voice of Thanbyuzayat who was among dozens released in a September amnesty.
Some still detained are facing trial from Kyaikmaraw Prison in Mon State.
At least 30 people arrested by the regime council in Kyaikto Township are facing trial on charges under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code, an incitement provision used frequently by the junta to prosecute opponents since the coup.
