Myanmar military airstrikes on at least three locations in Kyaukphyu Township, Arakan State, injured three internally displaced persons (IDPs) and damaged homes and monasteries, according to local sources.
Beginning at around 3 p.m. on June 6, a military Y-12 aircraft dropped multiple bombs on Thitkatoe, Kalartwin and Bayar villages.
The injured were identified as 12-year-old Ma Su Nay Lin, an IDP sheltering in the area; 50-year-old U Chit Lwin; and 69-year-old Daw Than Yee, both originally from nearby Sanae Town.
"Fierce fighting is ongoing near the Taung Maw Gyi naval station in Kyaukphyu, prompting the regime to carry out daily airstrikes," a local resident said.
"The regime is now bombing areas where IDPs are taking shelter. These villages are located near Sanae Town. It appears the regime is targeting civilians after suffering heavy losses in ground fighting," he added.
The airstrikes damaged homes and religious buildings in the affected villages and also killed livestock.
At about 10 p.m. on June 6, a Y-12 aircraft bombed Bayar Village, damaging a monastery building. More bombs were dropped on Kalartwin Village after 11 p.m., destroying several houses and killing three cows.
Around midnight, another airstrike targeted Thitkatoe Village with three bombs. Shrapnel from the explosions injured Ma Su Nay Lin in her left arm, U Chit Lwin in his right hip, and Daw Than Yee in her back.
"Residents are frightened because the regime is targeting villages and shelters hosting displaced people, and many are trying to move to safer locations," a Kyaukphyu-based social aid worker said.
"With IDPs scattered across Kyaukphyu Township, families are facing serious financial and logistical difficulties as they attempt to relocate," the aid worker added.
Fighting between regime forces and the Arakan Army remains intense across Kyaukphyu Township, with civilian casualties continuing to rise as the military repeatedly attacks areas where displaced people are sheltering.
After losing control of much of Kyaukphyu Township, the regime launched an offensive from the Taung Maw Gyi naval station toward Sanae Town last month. However, junta troops were forced to retreat following a counteroffensive by the Arakan Army.
Heavy fighting continues near the naval station, and the Arakan Army has reportedly captured most of the surrounding military outposts.
