Junta launches airstrikes with fleet of aircraft in Thandwe Twsp

The military junta launched airstrikes using a fleet of aircraft on July 23, targeting areas around Ngapali Town and the Maung Shwe Lay naval station in Thandwe Township, an area controlled by the Arakan Army in Arakan State, according to local sources.

Residents reported that the regime carried out the attacks in the afternoon using three jet fighters and one Y-12 aircraft.

Bombs exploded in Lintha Ward of Ngapali Town and areas near the Maung Shwe Lay naval station, although the extent of casualties and damage remains unknown, a local resident said.

"The attacks targeted areas near Ngapali Beach and the Maung Shwe Lay naval station. There were at least four aircraft involved. They bombed in formation for about an hour," a Thandwe resident said.

Local residents expressed increased fear and anxiety following the airstrikes.

As the junta's self-declared 100-day peace initiative approaches its end, the regime has continued carrying out daily airstrikes across Arakan State.

"With the former junta chief's 100-day peace plan coming to an end, the regime appears frustrated that the Arakan Army did not join the talks. That seems to be why they are using fleet airstrikes to destroy towns and villages in areas controlled by the Arakan Army," a local resident said.

The regime has continued bombing five townships across Arakan State since July 19.

Junta airstrikes targeted Maei, Thandwe, and Ponnagyun townships on July 19, followed by attacks on Mrauk-U and Minbya townships on July 20.

The ongoing air raids come as residents across Arakan State are already facing severe hardship due to flooding. On July 19 alone, junta airstrikes killed and injured 34 local residents across the state.
