The Myanmar military has reportedly detained three local residents in downtown Kyaukphyu, Arakan State, in recent days.
The military arrested Ko San Tun, 31, Ko Kyaw Min Tun, 38, and U Aung Lin, 41, from Asoeya Ward in Kyaukphyu from October 17 to 19.
“He [Ko San Tun] was abducted at around 6 p.m. on October 17, on the way back from his workshop,” said a source close to the detainee. “The reason for the arrest remains unknown. He was reportedly taken by junta soldiers from the Myanmar military’s Light Infantry Battalion No. 34.”
Around 60 junta soldiers arrested Ko Kyaw Min Tun and U Aung Lin, residents of Asoeya Ward, at about 10 p.m. on October 19, and their whereabouts remain unknown, said a source close to U Aung Lin.
“The two men were arrested by about 60 junta soldiers in three military trucks. The military used to detain civilians under the pretext of conducting overnight guest checks,” the source added.
DMG phoned Major-General Zaw Min Tun, spokesman for the regime, regarding the military’s detention of the three men in Kyaukphyu, but he could not be reached.
Twenty-three people in Kyaukphyu Township have been arrested on suspicion by the military regime in recent months, according to a DMG tally.
