An artillery barrage and gunfire in Kyauktan village in Kyauktaw Township injured a 14-year-old girl and a man in his 30s.

Ma Oo Than Nwe received a bullet wound in her thigh while she was hiding in her house with her family when they heard the sound of gunfire near the village this afternoon at about 1p.m,

A Tatmadaw troop shot heavy weapons and guns into the village, said U Thein Than Maung, father of Ma Oo Than Nwe.

“Their attack creates animosity, people feel bitter about their experience of being shot,” he said.

Ko Oo Ba Than in his 30s was hit by pieces of shrapnel while he was herding cattle near the village’s cemetery.

“My son got serious injuries on his whole body including his arms and legs. We are poor and he earns his living from herding cows. I’m outraged that he was injured by the Tatmadaw’s attack,” said U Maung Saw Phyu, father of the victim.

The victims are in critical conditions and are now undergoing medical treatment at Sittwe hospital.

The DMG phoned Maj-Gen Tun Tun Nyi from the Tatmadaw True News Information Team and Colonel Win Zaw Oo from the Western Command for comment, but they could not be reached.
