Two out of four people from Kyauktaw Township’s two villages, who have been detained under the Unlawful Associations’ Law were released today (March 12) since they were cleared of accusations.
U Than Tun and U Aye Kyaw Than from Maha Muni village and U Kyaw Kyaw Nyunt and U Maung Chan Aye from Thayet Ta Bin village were arrested on February 28 and Kyauktaw police has opened a case under section 7 (1) and (2) of the Unlawful Associations’ Law.
But, U Kyaw Kyaw Nyunt and U Than Tun have been released since it was discovered that they did not breach any law after the CID checked their mobile phones, U Kyaw Kyaw Nyunt said.
U Aye Kyaw Than and U Maung Chan Aye were remanded in custody, but it’s not certain if they will be put on trial, said U Saw Maung Thein, administrator of Thayet Ta Bin village.
The DMG tried calling several times for comment but was unable to reach the Kyauktaw police station.
Another five detained people _ four village administrators and one villager from Mrauk-U Township_who have been arrested for questioning on the same day as the two men, were released on March 8 because of the lack of sufficient evidence.
