Three middle school students were injured by a landmine explosion near a school in Kywe Yine (Na Ta La) village, Tinmay village-tract in Buthidaung Township, Arakan State.
The blast occurred in farmland near a middle school at 9 a.m. on 12 September while the children were playing, said the villagers.
Three Grade-6 students were injured in the blast. Two victims of the landmine identified as Maung Khaing Min Thein and Maung Nyein Chan Aung sustained severe injuries and they were receiving medical treatment at the hospitals.
Maung Khaing Min Thein, the 12-year old victim was transferred to a public hospital in Maungtaw via a public hospital in Buthidaung, his fingers were blown off by the blast, said U Kyaw Phyu, father of the landmine victim.
Maung Nyein Chan Aung, another 12-year old victim received injuries to his ears and chest in the explosion and was receiving medical treatment at a public hospital in Buthidaung.
“Both injured kids were hospitalized but one of the landmine victims’ fingers were blown off. Villagers do not go outside,” said U Kyaw Thar Oo, the village-tract administrator.
Surgery for Maung Nyein Chan Aung was performed at a public hospital in Buthidaung on 13 September.
