A woman was reportedly killed and four other people were injured in a junta airstrike on Meekyaunghtoe Village, part of Arakan State's Taungup Township, on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Daw A Chay Ma, a 26-year-old mother of two, including a newborn.
"The deceased gave birth to a child less than a month ago. She is survived by two children. Four others were wounded in the regime air assault and we are investigating the names of the injured," said a resident of Taungup.
A junta jet fighter dropped three bombs on Meekyaunghtoe Village at around 1 p.m. on August 22, destroying three homes near the village's monastery, the resident added.
Myanmar's military regime had been carrying out airstrikes and firing mortar shells into residential areas of Taungup Township in the lead-up to Thursday's deadly attack.
No casualties were reported after a junta jet fighter dropped two bombs on the hills near Aungmingalar Village, located between Sarpyin and Kamar villages in Taungup Township, on August 15.
A junta jet fighter also conducted airstrikes on the Moe Pyinnyar Dana Philanthropic Association's training school near Shwekunsan Village in Taungup Township on August 16.
"There is still no fighting in Taungup Township, but the regime has started to bombard the locals to instill fear. The regime is firing heavy weapons to threaten local people," said another Taungup resident.
No fighting has been reported in Taungup Township since the military clashed with the Arakkha Army (AA) on June 15, but the regime has been firing mortar shells into residential areas and has prepared a defence in downtown Taungup since then.
