Arakanese people, Muslims, and well-wishers from home and abroad are actively contributing donations to rebuild Mrauk-U Hospital, which was destroyed by a regime airstrike.
On March 26, monks and devotees from Rathedaung Township donated more than K40 million towards the reconstruction effort.
“There are door-to-door fund collections in our villages. People are donating with great generosity. Since the hospital was destroyed, there will be many difficulties in getting it operational again. We all contribute as much as we can because we have to go there for any emergency,” said a local woman in Rathedaung Township.
According to statements from the Department of Health under the United League of Arakan, as well as various organizations and donors, more than K1.4 billion has been raised so far for the reconstruction of Mrauk-U Hospital.
For the rebuilding efforts, an Arakan women’s group comprising members of all ages donated over K130 million on January 19, 2026, while Muslims from Maungdaw District contributed K50 million on February 8, 2026.
In addition, more than K120 million was donated by the White Rebel Comrades on December 23, 2025. On December 18, the Wai Hun Aung philanthropic foundation contributed K410 million to the ULA’s Department of Health.
Earlier, on December 12, 2025, the Wai Hun Aung foundation also donated K18 million.
Furthermore, K680 million received from domestic and international donors between December 11 and 26, 2025, was channelled through the Wai Hun Aung philanthropic foundation. The ULA Department of Health also reported that Ko Naing Lin donated K500,000 on December 27, 2025.
Arakanese residents said the collective effort to rebuild Mrauk-U Hospital reflects strong unity and solidarity.
“The health sector is vital everywhere, so it is good to help rebuild it during this period of conflict. It would be even better if the use of donated funds is clearly explained. Rebuilding the hospital ourselves also shows our strength and capability,” said a social worker in Kyauktaw.
The regime carried out an airstrike on Mrauk-U Hospital on December 10, 2024, International Human Rights Day, killing 33 civilians and injuring 78 others.
The attack destroyed the main hospital building, including the operating theatre, as well as medicines and medical equipment.
The regime continues to conduct airstrikes targeting civilian villages, schools, IDP camps, hospitals, clinics, and religious buildings.
