Daw Saw Mra Razar Lin said the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP) signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) to determine the future of Arakan State and the Arakanese people.
She made the remarks on October 15 during a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw marking the 11th anniversary of the NCA signing.
“When we signed the NCA, our primary goal was to achieve equality,” Daw Saw Mra Razar Lin said. “We focused our discussions on the right to govern our own state and the ability to shape our own people's destiny.”
She further asserted that the ALP considers the NCA paramount and unalterable.
She also said achieving peace in Myanmar requires an immediate cessation of hostilities, emphasizing that a unilateral ceasefire is impossible and that all parties involved must genuinely want to stop fighting.
“We are actively pursuing peace,” Daw Saw Mra Razar Lin added. “We are striving to restore peace to the country so that all citizens can live in tranquility under a protective canopy.”
She also said the root causes of the conflict must be addressed openly at the negotiating table, warning that lasting peace cannot be achieved if parties exchange pleasantries in public while acting differently behind closed doors.
She went on to say that, when considering the country's future, political actors must look beyond narrow interests centered on their own parties, families, organizations or ethnic groups, stressing the need for inclusive dialogue.
Daw Saw Mra Razar Lin's remarks in Nay Pyi Taw come as intense fighting between the military junta and the Arakan Army continues across Sittwe Township, placing the ALP's headquarters in an active conflict zone.
“As the ALP is based in junta-controlled Sittwe, they naturally speak to appease the military,” said a local political observer monitoring Arakan State politics. “That comes as no surprise. However, claiming that the NCA will shape the destiny of Arakan is utter nonsense. The ALP enjoys zero support among the Arakanese public and remains entirely unable to escape the military's pocket.”
The ALP headquarters led by Daw Saw Mra Razar Lin is located in Setyonesu Ward, Sittwe. Local residents report that the ALP actively collaborates with junta forces in conducting forced conscription raids and checking overnight guest lists.
Other signatory groups attending the NCA anniversary event in Nay Pyi Taw included the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS), the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), the KNU/KNLA Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC), the New Mon State Party (NMSP) and the Lahu Democratic Union (LDU).
