The Arakkha Army (AA) has begun attacking the Myanmar military outposts that surround Ann, where the military’s Western Command is based, according to military sources.
“The military’s outposts in Ann Township are besieged and attacked by the AA. The regime’s regiments were ambushed by the AA,” said the source.
Some junta soldiers managed to flee their outposts due to the AA’s attacks, said sources on the ground.
The AA attacked and seized the military’s Tawhein tactical command base near Kazukaing Village in Ann Township on June 23.
The AA launched attacks on five military outposts on Mt. Mel near Shaukshone Village, with the military responding to the AA’s attack with aerial and artillery support.
“The regime carried out an airstrike as the clash with the AA was fierce,” said a local resident in Ann Township.
Ann Township is home to the military’s Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) Nos. 371, 372 and 373, engineering battalions, medical corps, and supply and transport battalions.
Clashes between the military and AA are intensifying in Ann, Maungdaw and Thandwe townships and fighting between the two sides is also reported in Taungup Township.
Since renewed hostilities began on November 13, the AA has thus far seized nine townships in Arakan State and Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State.
