A junta helicopter unleashed strafing fire on Apaukwa Village in Arakan State’s Kyauktaw Township at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, according to residents.
“It strafed along U-daung mountain ridge in the west of the village, and land adjacent to Apaukwa police station. They attacked because they thought AA [Arakan Army] troops were at the police station.”
Junta police at Apaukwa Village surrendered to the AA on November 13 when renewed fighting broke out between the Myanmar military and the AA.
It was not immediately clear if the strafing caused civilian casualties in Apaukwa Village. Many villagers have fled out of fear for their safety.
“It was an unprovoked strafing intended to cause panic among villagers, and force them to flee their homes,” said a resident.
DMG was unable to reach junta spokesman Major -General Zaw Min Tun for comment.
Since renewed fighting broke out on November 13, Myanmar’s military regime has been pounding civilian communities in Arakan State using artillery, drones and gunships.
