At least 11 people were killed and seven others were injured after the junta launched an airstrike on Waibula town, part of Chin State’s Falam Township, on Monday, according to a source on the ground.
A junta jet fighter dropped two bombs on a school near Waibula at around 11 a.m. on April 10 without there being fighting, a local resident said.
“A junta fighter jet dropped two bombs on a high school run by the Chin National Defense Force (CNDF). The junta carried out the airstrike without there being fighting in the vicinity,” said the resident of Waibula town.
The air attack destroyed housing for school staff, and some other homes near the school, in addition to killing 11 people and wounding seven others, according to philanthropists from local charities.
“A home for educational employees was completely destroyed by the junta airstrike, killing 11 people and injuring seven others. The injured were admitted to Haka Hospital,” said a local philanthropist.
The airstrike occurred after fighting between the CNDF and the military erupted near Bah Village in Falam Township in the early hours of Monday, the CNDF said in a statement.
DMG phoned regime spokesman Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun regarding the reported casualties due to the military’s airstrikes on Waibula, but he could not be reached.
Nine people were killed and 20 others were wounded after the military carried out airstrikes on Khwarpho Village in neighbouring Thantlang Township on March 30.
The regime has imposed martial law in Tedim, Tunzang, Falam, Kanpetlet and Haka townships in Chin State, and has launched multiple offensives against resistance forces with aerial support.
