TNLA warns of harsh action against administrators cooperating in junta conscription drive

The Palaung State Liberation Front/Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA) has warned of harsh punitive action against administrators that help conscript for the Myanmar military.
The TNLA issued a warning on Tuesday, saying the Ta’ang armed group and local communities do not accept conscription and that it would take harsh action against any administrator that helps conscript for the regime.
The TNLA said it had received complaints from local people that the regime is forcibly conscripting in Lashio, Hsipaw, Kyaukme and Nawnghkio townships, where the TNLA is active.
The regime has instructed local administrators that each ward and village must supply a certain number of conscripts. Some ward administrators are conscripting under pressure from the regime, according to the TNLA.
The regime introduced mandatory military service on February 10 in a move reflecting severe depletion among its ranks by casualties amid daily clashes with resistance forces, coupled with a recruitment crisis and desertions.
