At least three civilians were killed and 12 others injured after the military regime carried out overnight bombing using a Y-12 aircraft in Rathedaung Town and nearby villages in Arakan State on October 3, according to local residents.
Between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., junta forces dropped more than 20 bombs on Rathedaung Town and surrounding villages.
The bombs struck Strand Road, Ah Shae Taung Ward, and Taungyintan Ward inside Rathedaung Town, as well as Pyarchaunggyi Village near Rathedaung Bridge, Pyinkhaung Village on the opposite riverbank, and Angumaw Village along the Mayu Riverbank area.
"Three people were killed in total," a Rathedaung resident said. "Bombs hit the Rathedaung jetty, the Agriculture Department Office, No. 2 High School, and one bomb struck the middle of town."
Initial reports identified the deceased as 15-year-old Ma Moe Moe Nwei and 13-year-old Ma Myo Myat Khine from Rathedaung Town, along with 70-year-old U Aung Kyaw Tha from Pyarchaunggyi Village.
Several residential homes were also destroyed in Pyarchaunggyi Village.
Junta forces also bombed Angumaw Village in Rathedaung Township, located across the water from Yaychanpyin Village in Sittwe Township.
The attack injured 24-year-old Ma Khin Hmone Yar Swe, 45-year-old U Phyu Thee, and 45-year-old U Thein Hla.
"All the targeted locations are villages densely populated by civilians," a local resident said. "Continuously bombing these areas shows a deliberate intent to target the people of Arakan State."
Intense fighting is ongoing along the border between Rathedaung and Sittwe townships. In recent days, a junta bombing of Kutaung Village on Mosel Island in Rathedaung Township killed one person and injured another.
Local residents have described the military regime's continued aerial bombardment of civilian areas across Arakan State as war crimes.
On October 1, junta bombing near Bawdigon Bazaar in Ward 6 of Thandwe Town injured two residents. On October 2, a military bombing of Aungphyupyin Village in Ponnagyun Township injured three civilians.
The military regime's continued aerial bombardment is causing further civilian casualties across Arakan State.
Despite widespread condemnation of mass civilian deaths by international bodies, including United Nations human rights officials, the military regime continues to carry out aerial attacks, local residents said.
