More than two acres of paddy were reduced to ash as regime forces torched unharvested paddy fields near Koetankauk Village, part of Arakan State’s Rathedaung Township, on Friday, the Three Brotherhood Alliance said in a statement.
About 10 members from a Border Guard Force (BGF) outpost near Koetankauk Village set fire to two paddy fields owned by two local men at about 3 p.m. on December 22.
“The fire lasted for about two hours. About two acres of paddy were set ablaze by the BGF members,” said a resident of Koetankauk Village.
The AA has had its sights on multiple BGF outposts in Arakan State, attacking the Donenyo BGF outpost in Maungdaw Township at about 10 a.m. on November 16 and occupying the BGF outpost at around 1 p.m. on November 17.
The military regime, which suffered heavy casualties, continues to target civilians with heavy weapons, small arms fire and airstrikes, as well as setting fire to houses and other civilian buildings.
Nearly 200 homes in Yeyoepyin and Khamaungdaw villages in Ponnagyun Township, Arakan State, were burned down by junta soldiers on December 3. Junta artillery shells fired from a Myanmar Navy vessel in the Kaladan River reportedly caused a blaze at Myoma Market in Ponnagyun town on November 24 that engulfed more than 300 stalls.
According to a DMG tally, 28 civilians were killed and 128 others were injured in Arakan State and neighbouring Chin State’s Paletwa Township as of December 20, in junta attacks involving infantry, artillery, fighter planes and warships.
