A woman was injured when an artillery shell landed and exploded in Mon Daunt Chaung Village, part of Chin State’s Paletwa Township, at about 6 p.m. on Friday, according to locals.

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Daw Ma Nyo Sein, whose right leg was wounded by shrapnel from the shelling, a resident told DMG.

“The Myanmar military’s Light Infantry Battalion No. 289 fired three artillery shells into the village at about 6 p.m. yesterday,” the resident said on Saturday. “One of the artillery shells landed and exploded in the village. She was injured by shrapnel while she was feeding her pigs near her home.”

The victim is currently receiving treatment at Paletwa Hospital. Another villager said that there was no fighting in the vicinity of Mon Daunt Chaung Village on Friday.

“Local residents are worried about their safety following the shelling into the residential area, given the lack of fighting near the village,” the villager said.

DMG continues to attempt to contact Chin State Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Han Win Aung regarding the shelling.

Mon Daunt Chaung is a small village of less than 40 households and about 80 people, with residents primarily earning a living by farming.

There were more than 20 clashes between junta troops and the Arakan Army (AA) in Paletwa Township in the first week of October, the ethnic armed group said in a statement on October 7.
