Man killed, two women injured in junta airstrikes on Kayah State town

A local was killed and two others were injured on Tuesday in junta airstrikes on Dawparpah village near Loilemlay, a town on the border of Shan and Kayah states, according to ground sources. 

The Myanmar military reportedly launched the airstrikes on Dawparpah village at around 11 a.m. on August 9, killing a local man in his 50s and injuring two women. 

A community healthcare centre for the internally displaced people (IDPs) and a home were also destroyed by the junta’s aerial attack, said a health worker. 

“A local man in his 50s was killed and two women were wounded in the regime’s airstrikes. The injured are being treated,” the health worker added. 

“A junta fighter jet dropped bombs three times on the village at about 11 a.m.,” said a resident of Dawparpah village. 

Some schools for IDP children were closed and at least 1,000 people were forced to flee to nearby forests following the regime’s airstrikes, according to the Karenni IDP assistance group. 

“The residents were frightened by the Myanmar military’s airstrikes and dared not stay in the village. The locals fled to safer locations due to the airstrikes,” an aid worker said. 

As of press time, the military regime had not released any information about the airstrikes. Videos purporting to show the aerial bombardment of Dawparpah village have since gone viral on social media, though DMG was unable to independently verify their authenticity.
