Artillery shells kill two civilians, injure three in Ann Twsp village

Two civilians were killed and three others were injured on June 26 when artillery shells believed to have been fired by the Tatmadaw landed in Nat Maw village, Ann Township, according to residents.   
 
Locals accused troops under Light Infantry Division No. 66, stationed at a hilltop base near Dar Lat village (West), of having fired the shells that hit the village, which is part of the Dar Lat village-tract.
 
“The Tatmadaw troops fired artillery shells for an hour and a half, constantly and without any hostilities with the Arakan Army,” said Ko Alinkar, a resident of Nat Maw village. “The victims were killed and injured when artillery shells fell in the village while they were sitting in their houses.”
 
DMG efforts to contact Brigadier-General Zaw Min Tun and Major-General Tun Tun Nyi, from the Tatmadaw True News Information Team, for comment on the incident were unsuccessful.
 
U Ba Maung, 55, died after reportedly being hit in the head by shrapnel, while another man identified as U Nyunt Aung, 42, was reportedly killed after his leg was severed in the barrage.
 
A 2-year-old girl sustained a bone fracture from the shelling while a woman identified as Daw Hla Hla Nwe, 36, had her left leg broken. In addition, 59-year-old U Chit Tin suffered a shrapnel wound to his abdomen.
 
The injured were transferred to the public hospital in Ann town for medical treatment, according to local residents.
 
DMG phoned several Arakan State lawmakers seeking comment on the incident, but was unable to connect with any of them.
 
Dar Lat village-tract in Ann Township, Arakan State, consists of more than 40 villages and residents are facing difficulties because they have reportedly been prohibited from transporting rice into the area by the Tatmadaw.
