The Arakkha Army (AA) on Sunday issued a notice to residents to leave Maungdaw, Arakan State, as soon as possible, as the ethnic armed group is preparing to attack the remaining junta camps in the border town.
The AA has captured almost all the junta camps in Maungdaw Township and has surrounded and cut off the remaining camps in and around the town of Maungdaw.
The junta has long been preparing for urban combat operations using Maungdaw as a military base.
“If there is a battle for control of Maungdaw, the safety of the people’s lives is important, so the AA informs the people in advance,” said a military analyst. “The people were asked to evacuate for the safety of their lives, so it is important for the people to follow the AA’s statement. The AA has issued an official notice to the public to prevent them from suffering during the battle for control of Maungdaw.”
The AA has seized several junta bases, military camps and BGF outposts in Maungdaw. It has also stepped up attacks on Border Guard Police Battalion Nos. 2 and 5 and Nar Khaung To camp.
The AA has thus far seized nine townships in Arakan State along with Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State, and scores of military camps. It has been attacking junta positions in Ann, Thandwe, Taungup and Kyaukphyu townships in recent weeks.
