Fighting between the military and Arakkha Army (AA) is intensifying as the ethnic armed group stepped up attacks on junta bases and military camps in the Kazukaing area of Ann Township, Arakan State, where the military’s Western Command is based.
The AA simultaneously launched attacks on the military’s Tawhein tactical command base near Kazukaing Village along with some military camps and Point 299 near Shaukchon Village on June 12.
“The AA attacked the military’s Tawhein tactical command base near Kazukaing Village. Junta soldiers at the Tawhein tactical command base are reportedly attempting to flee to other military outposts. The sounds of gunfire were heard from military camps near Shaukchon Village,” said a reliable source.
A junta jet fighter dropped bombs on AA positions in Kazukaing Village at least 12 times on June 12, locals said.
Under the No. 5 Military Operations Command, the Tawhein tactical command base is located near the Yangon-Sittwe road, about 20 miles west of Ann Town.
A fierce clash between the military and AA was reported near the Tawhein tactical command base from the morning to 1 p.m. on June 12, according to local residents.
“Maungdaw Town will fall to the AA soon. The AA is attacking junta camps in Maungdaw, Thandwe and Ann simultaneously and ramps up assaults on the military in Ann Township. The AA is expected to step up attacks on the regime in Ann Township,” said a military analyst.
The AA has seized nine townships in Arakan State along with Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State, and has declared its ambition to take control of the remaining Arakan townships of Maungdaw, Sittwe, Ann, Thandwe, Kyaukphyu, Taungup, Manaung and Gwa.
