Five injured in junta shelling of Ponnagyun Twsp village
The military is frequently firing heavy weapons into the villages bordering Sittwe and Ponnagyun townships, causing panic among residents.

At least five local residents were injured after an artillery shell fired by the Myanmar Navy in Sittwe landed and exploded in Kywehtoe Village, part of Arakan State’s Ponnagyun Township, at around 7 p.m. on July 23.
“Five people were injured in an artillery strike by junta soldiers stationed at Shwe Min Gan naval base in Sittwe. Among the injured, two people are in critical condition. The injured are receiving medical treatment,” said a local resident of Kywehtoe Village.
The injured have been identified as Maung Nay Myo Lin, 17, Maung Nay Myo Oo, 23, Daw Sein Kyawt Nu, 35, Daw Aye Khaing Nyunt, 45, and Daw Ma Kyawt, 73. The conditions of Daw Ma Kyawt and Maung Nay Myo Lin are considered life-threatening.

“The military regiments and Myanmar Navy vessels internationally fire mortar shells into some villages,” said a local woman from Kywehtoe Village.
A junta drone attack on Khamoungdaw Village in Ponnagyun Township destroyed religious buildings and some homes on July 4.
Ponnagyun Township has been seized and held by the Arakkha Army (AA). Civilian casualties continue to rise due to junta airstrikes and artillery attacks on AA-controlled areas such as Ponnagyun Township.
