Myanmar citizens undertaking international travel can apply for electronic Covid-19 vaccination certificates in English, according to the military regime’s Ministry of Health.
The ASEAN Single QR Code Verification Portal has approved electronic Covid-19 vaccination certificates issued by Myanmar, according to Dr. Than Naing Soe of the Ministry of Health.
“Travellers may still need to take Covid-19 tests before departure, depending on the countries they go to. Some countries still ask for the results of a Polymerase Chain Reaction [PCR] Covid-19 test within 48 hours before the flight, besides the Covid-19 vaccination certificates. But many countries only ask for Covid-19 vaccination certificates,” he explained.
The ministry started issuing electronic vaccination certificates containing QR codes online in April, and those digital documents can be viewed on any smartphone or tablet.
People who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and have a Myanmar version of vaccination record containing a QR code and Check ID issued by the Vaccination Management Information System can apply for an electronic vaccination certificate on the Health Ministry’s official website, according to the ministry.
A meeting of ASEAN health ministers held on May 14-15 in Indonesia approved digital Covid-19 vaccination certificates issued by Myanmar’s Health Ministry as valid for travel within the regional bloc.
In June, the regime waived mandatory Covid-19 tests for fully vaccinated international travellers who come to Myanmar on commercial flights.
The military government in February required that all domestic air travellers take a rapid diagnostic test for Covid-19 within 48 hours of their flights. It has also now waived those requirements for fully vaccinated travellers.
