A married woman in her 40s from Ngapathone Village, part of Arakan State’s Myebon Township, was reportedly raped and killed on November 28, according to local residents.

The victim was killed on her way home after she attended a wedding reception in Paikseik Village, about one mile from Ngapathone, the villagers said.

“She went to Paikseik Village to attend a wedding reception on November 28,” a village elder told DMG. “She was raped and killed as she was returning home at about 7 p.m. At first, her [the victim’s] husband searched for her. He then asked some villagers to search for his wife. The victim was found dead in the morning.”

Villagers said the woman’s naked body was found dumped in a bush in a field, with bruising to her her face, a rope nearby, and showing signs of being raped.

The Arakan Army (AA), the armed wing of the United League of Arakan (ULA), detained three men in the village for questioning in connection with the woman’s death.

“One of the three people who were drinking liquor at the wedding reception tried to rape her two years ago. He was among three people arrested by the AA for questioning,” a villager said.
