India’s Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma has called for developing friendship between ethnic Chin and Arakanese communities, saying that Chin people should make friends with the Arakkha Army (AA) rather than fighting it, according to Chin news agencies.

Pu said so as he met Chin communities on Wednesday in the US city of Indianapolis, Indiana.

“If we have problems with the AA … they are stronger than us. They have large numbers of troops. So, we must make friends with them, and not fight them. Whether the Chin National Front or Chin Brotherhood or Chinland Council or Zomi Revolutionary Army, or AA or People’s Defence Force, we are revolting against the common enemy,” Pu was quoted as saying.

“The military council will be happy if we are fighting each other. So, we must make friends with the AA, otherwise, it might even come to Lawngtlai and create trouble.”

He also reportedly stressed the need to promote unity between Chin revolutionary groups and deepen cooperation between religious organisations and civil society organisations.

The AA has seized Paletwa Township in Chin State from the regime and there have been tensions between the AA and the Chin National Front/Chin National Army. After the fighting in Matupi Town, the CNF captured two AA members.

However, the Chin Brotherhood, another Chin revolutionary group, and the AA are allies, fighting the regime together in Chin State.
