A committee has been formed to assess the future reopening of Nandawun Park in Sittwe Township, a spokesperson for the Arakan State regime council told DMG.
The committee members are state-level officials from the Department of Forestry and other government departments, said the spokesman, U Hla Thein.
“Previously, people visited the park on weekends and holidays. It is temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 outbreak. If the park is reopened, we need to repair some buildings in the park. So, we formed a committee to review the needs,” U Hla Thein said.
Locals are said to be congregating in greater numbers along Sittwe’s Strand Road due to the closure of Nandawun Park.
An official of the Department of the Forestry in Arakan State said the department has already written a management plan for when the state government allows it to reopen the park.
“We will repair buildings to please visitors. We will repaint the buildings. We drew up a plan to make the best of the park. The main intention is to attract more visitors,” the official said.
The 100-acre Nandawun Park is located near Kyarmathauk village in Sittwe Township.
