People’s Soldiers calls for helping families of defecting soldiers
An organisation helping and encouraging Tatmadaw personnel to defect from the Myanmar military, People’s Soldiers, says the families of soldiers who have joined the anti-junta Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) need the help of the public as they adjust to their new realities.

An organisation helping and encouraging Tatmadaw personnel to defect from the Myanmar military, People’s Soldiers, says the families of soldiers who have joined the anti-junta Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) need the help of the public as they adjust to their new realities.
Some families of defected military personnel are struggling to get by and People’s Soldiers is asking that people assist them as much as possible, a member of the group told DMG on November 26.
“Some family members of defecting soldiers are now facing difficulty for living [accomodation] and food,” he said.
Row houses are being built for family members of ex-Tatmadaw personnel who have joined the CDM.
“We ask the people to help families of striking soldiers. We have already built row houses for 15 families at the moment,” said a member of People’s Soldiers.
More than 2,000 soldiers, including military officers, have reportedly joined the CDM, and more Tatmadaw personnel and police want to join the movement, People’s Soldiers says.
Those wishing to provide help for the families of defecting soldiers can contribute donations via Facebook messenger or the website of People’s Soldiers, the organisation said.
