A police officer was hospitalised after being shot at a restaurant near Rar Maung Hall in Minbya Township, Arakan State, on September 10, a police official told DMG.
“I confirmed the report and the police officer received two gunshot wounds to his cheek and neck. He is now receiving medical treatment at Minbya Hospital and his condition is considered life-threatening,” said the police official, who declined to be named.
The injured officer, Police Inspector Kaung Myat Tun from Minbya Myoma police station, was shot by two unknown men, according to residents.
“Residents said that a police officer was injured after being shot at a restaurant near Ra Maung Hall at about 6 p.m. on September 10. I don’t know the details,” said U Hla Thein Aung, an Arakan State MP.
Some gunfire was heard in downtown Minbya following the incident at the restaurant, residents said.
“Following the incident, many people in downtown Minbya stayed in their homes for fear of being arrested by the police. I am worried the local people will be in trouble,” said a Minbya resident.
The restaurant owner was arrested by a combined contingent of police and military personnel on the evening of September 10, according to locals.
