Record high temperatures in five Myanmar townships
April temperatures in five Myanmar townships have reached record levels, in some cases not seen in more than 60 years, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

April temperatures in five Myanmar townships have reached record levels, in some cases not seen in more than 60 years, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
Record high temperatures were recorded in Theinzayat, Bilin and Thaton townships in Mon State, and Shwegyin Township in Bago Region on April 25, and Sagaing Region’s Tamu on April 20.
Daytime temperatures in Tamu reached 43.8 C on April 18, up from the previous record of 43.2 C, and hit a new record of 44 C on April 20.
Theinzayat recorded 43 C, up from the previous record of 42.5 C. Bilin recorded 41.7, up from the previous record of 41.4 C. Thaton recorded 41 C, up from the previous record of 40.3 C, and Shwekyin recorded 42.7 C, up from the previous record of 42 C.
“Temperatures reached 43 C on Tuesday. It was a little windy today, and the temperature was around 42 C. We have a water shortage because of extreme heat,” Ko Ye Win from Theinzayat told DMG.
Temperatures are between 2 C and 5 C higher than April averages in 12 regions and states, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
Elderly people, children, pregnant women and lactating mothers, the obese and those with chronic illnesses are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses, the Health Department has warned.
