Four people were injured in a junta air attack on a school on Monday morning in the village of Shukhinthar, part of northern Kale Township, Sagaing Region.
Local villagers were holding a meeting on the opening of the school when the junta gunship strafed, said the Chin National Organization-Upper Chindwin Region (CNO-UCR) on Monday.
Four attendees were injured and the school was damaged, according to a member of the CNO-UCR.
“Community elders were holding a meeting to reopen the school on a self-reliance basis. It was an unprovoked air attack. I think the regime heard about the meeting, so it carried out the attack to deter opening of schools [by civilian authorities] in rural areas,” the member said.
DMG was unable to contact junta spokesman Major-General Zaw Min Tun to ask about the CNO-UCR’s claim that the school came under air attack.
A resident was injured when artillery shells landed on Letpanchaung Village in Kale Township on Sunday, said CNO-UCR. And two children were injured when the regime carried out an air raid on a school in Paukinmyaing Village, part of Sagaing Region’s Kani Township, on May 31, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners.
The regime has carried out increased air attacks on non-military targets over the past week, the AAPP said.
